In the heart of every family law dispute lies one constant truth: the child’s well-being must come first. Yet too often, the very voices most affected by decisions are the least heard. That’s where Voice of the Child Practitioners (VOCPs) come in — professionals trained to ensure children are not only seen but truly listened to during family mediation.
At Family Assist, in partnership with the Voice of the Child Certification Board (VOCCB), we are proud to lead South Africa’s movement toward formalised, ethical, and legally aligned child participation. Our certification program equips practitioners with the skills to facilitate safe, neutral, and meaningful conversations with children — all within the bounds of the Children’s Act 38 of 2005 and supporting regulations.
Unlike forensic assessments, VOC work is not about investigating or making recommendations. Instead, it’s about facilitating the child’s right to be heard, ensuring their views are respectfully documented and considered in the development of parenting plans.
As the demand grows for child-centred mediation, we are committed to building a professional, nationally recognised network of certified practitioners who uphold the highest standards of care, ethics, and child protection. Because when we listen to children, we don’t just comply with the law — we create stronger families and better futures.
